Meaningful Work

It’s been a crazy busy week for me.  I guess that means I’m doing something right in regards to growing my business.  I’m loving this job very much and I’m even getting used to Saturday being a workday.

When I left my job at the American Cancer Society, I was so worried that I would never be able to find another job that would “fill my bucket”.  I have always had a need to help others.  I admit that Real Estate seemed more like a sales job to me, I knew it would be fun but I just wasn’t sure that I would get the same satisfaction that I did working with cancer patients and their families.  Well, these past two weeks have shown me that this is also meaningful work!  I am working diligently to help a single mom with 4 children find the perfect home…in a hurry because they need to be out of their current home next month.  I am helping a couple with a disabled adult child sell the home that does not work for their daughter and find one that will.  I’m also helping a dear friend who has experienced more heartache than I could ever imagine sell a house that means a lot to her and her family.  It feels good to provide service to others!

On a funnier note: someone recently told me that I’m too nice to be a Realtor.  Maybe I look at the world through rose-colored glasses but I didn’t realize that some real estate agents aren’t nice!  I would think that being personable and honest would be definite qualities that one should have when working in this business.  I sure hope I can deliver absolute integrity and kindness to my clients…always!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.  Hug your loved ones tight and enjoy being together!

Great advice for first time homebuyers!

Buying your first home can be a fun experience but it also has it’s challenges.  I ran across this post that offers some great advice.  Check out this link from the Coldwell Banker blog!

I love houzz.com and brrrrrrr it’s cold…already!

As I was driving to the office this morning, I was thinking about how quickly the seasons seem to change in Michigan.  It seems that you have all of your windows open one day and the very next you’re turning on the furnace.  I also noticed a large amount of heating service trucks at homes on my way in.  It looks like a few neighbors didn’t check to see if the furnace was working before they needed it!  Who am I kidding…we didn’t either and had our fingers crossed as we switched ours on last night!

Being indoors makes me think of all the sprucing up that I need to do before holiday dinners and such.  One of my favorite websites is houzz.com.  There are zillions of pictures to give you inspiration for any part of your house.  You can even create your own “idea books” and save what appeals to you.  It’s like Pinterest for the home.  Check it out!

Happy Fall!  Stay warm and enjoy the sunshine!

A little bit about me

As I get started in the blogging world, I felt it necessary to first share some information about who I am and how I got into the real estate business.

Most know me as a mom, wife, former teacher, passionate fighter of cancer, and former employee of The American Cancer Society.  All of these titles have brought me many years of blessings and fun.  Real Estate has always been a dream of mine but it never seemed to be the right time to dive in.

2013 has been a year of incredible challenge.  In January, my dad passed away suddenly…a heart attack on the golf course in Florida.  We were very close and to say that his death took the wind out of my sails is an understatement.  He was only 62 and had so much more living to do.  I miss him every day.   On a fun note, 2013 brought some happy news to our family.  Our daughter Lauren recently became engaged to her wonderful boyfriend.  The wedding is planned for June of 2015!

I had been working for ACS for 6 years doing a job that I absolutely loved.  A corporate restructure was the reason that I decided to leave.  I still believe in the organization and will always be a volunteer.  I know that one should never make a decision when sad but some time off of work allowed me to take care of my dad’s affairs and gave me some time to begin healing.

I put a lot of thought into what I would do next.  Real estate was something that has always been in the back of my mind.  A good friend encouraged me to give it a try and while there is a lot to learn, I’m very glad that I made the decision to join Coldwell Banker Haynes Real Estate.

I look forward to blogging about my career, sharing information that will be useful to anyone with an interest in real estate, and I’ll probably throw in some fun stuff too.   I’ll leave you today with a link to a recipe that was “souper” easy and delicious.  I love soup this time of year and this creamy tomato tortellini soup didn’t disappoint.  How in the world did we ever cook before Pinterest?!
